How TSEC created an immersive theatrical experience that inspired donors and set the stage for the largest fundraising campaign in Seton Hall University’s history.

When Seton Hall University needed strategic leadership, design and comprehensive event production to launch the largest fundraising campaign in their history — a $225 million initiative, they reached out to TSEC Academic Solutions.

A group of five people stand together smiling at an indoor event. Four young adults wear white T-shirts with bold blue Seton Hall–themed messages, and the fifth person, an adult woman in a black dress, holds a glass of white wine. They are posing in a lounge-style area with soft seating, curtains, and a bar in the background.
A cheerleading squad performs outdoors at night, with six cheerleaders lifted into the air in a line, each standing on one leg and holding pom-poms while supported by teammates below. Spectators watch and take photos as the brightly lit performance takes place in front of a campus building.
A group of people on stage applaud as a large screen behind them reveals a campaign fundraising goal of $225,000,000. Blue lighting and falling confetti create a celebratory atmosphere, while audience members cheer from the foreground.
A diverse group of young people wearing matching gray t-shirts with "FOR ALL FOREVER" printed in blue text stand on stage under dramatic blue and purple lighting. They are arranged in multiple rows in front of a large LED screen displaying the word "RISE" in white letters with an orange underline. The stage is lit with vibrant purple and blue uplighting, and an audience is visible in the foreground. The setting is a university campaign launch event with an inspirational theme.

TSEC Academic Solutions partnered with Seton Hall’s Donor Relations team to architect an immersive celebration that transcended the traditional campaign launch. Rather than simply announcing a goal, we crafted a theatrical experience grounded in storytelling that connected attendees to the heart of Seton Hall’s mission.

We began by advocating for a venue that truly embodied the campaign’s spirit, shifting the launch from the Basketball Performance Center to the newly renovated, student-centric Dougherty University Center, ensuring the event space reflected the “For All, Forever” ethos.

The event opened with a sun-dappled reception in the vibrant Commons, where minimal branding allowed guests to settle into community while subtly bridging Seton Hall’s historic and modern spaces. As guests transitioned into the theatrical, TED Talk–style program, the environment transformed: three LED screens created visual continuity as programming moved seamlessly from one stage to the next, featuring nine speakers and seven original films produced by TSEC. These films highlighted authentic stories from students, faculty, staff, and donors, building toward a powerful emotional crescendo marked by a live student performance of “For Good” from Wicked —a powerful reminder of how donor support changes lives.

The campaign reveal delivered a signature moment: animated graphics, digital confetti, and custom effects punctuated the announcement of the $225 million goal. The post-reception then unveiled the full campaign brand across every touchpoint: glowing table boxes, dramatic blue and white gobos, column wraps featuring institutional values, and more — extending the emotional momentum and completing a cohesive visual narrative designed to inspire pride, generosity and long-term engagement.

TSEC managed every detail: event strategy, creative development, technical production, scriptwriting, volunteer training, risk management, filming and editing custom video content and animated campaign logo. Our focus was on storytelling that motivated donor action through authentic, student-driven narratives.

The result? The launch event delivered on every front, moving and motivating attendees with an experience that felt more like theater than a typical fundraising gala. Immediate feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees—including the Chairman of the Board of Regents—calling it “easily the best SHU event that I have attended.” University leaders praised TSEC’s attention to detail, flawless execution, and commitment to bringing their vision to life. The event forged strong emotional bonds between donors and the university, setting the stage for robust campaign support and ongoing donor engagement to support the campaign’s three pillars: $100M for Student Scholarships, Expanding Academic Excellence, and Capital Projects to Enhance the Student Experience.

By connecting donors to student voices and institutional values, TSEC helped Seton Hall move beyond awareness into inspiration — the true catalyst for major gift support.
